Heavy-duty pickup trucks are ideal for those who have outgrown the full-size pickup truck segment. Two well-known models are the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and the 2024 Nissan Titan XD. These two trucks offer potent payload and towing capacities and have some creature comforts and luxury features that make them viable family transporters.

Chevy offers the 2024 Silverado 2500HD with three cabs. There’s a regular cab with seating for up to three occupants. Then, there’s a Double Cab which can seat up to six adults, as well as a larger Crew Cab for more space. The Crew Cab has a gargantuan 139 cubic feet of interior volume, making it significantly more spacious than the 120 cubic foot interior of the 2024 Titan XD. The 2024 Titan doesn’t offer other cab styles.
Furthermore, Chevy offers the 2024 Silverado 2500HD with a choice of a regular or long cargo bed. The regular bed measures 6.8 feet, while the long bed is 8 feet. Buyers also get up to 12 tie-down points that are rated at 500 pounds per corner. Meanwhile, the 2024 Titan XD only has a 6.5-foot cargo bed. Hence, the 2024 Silverado 2500HD is more versatile for mixed usage cases. While the cargo bed is exposed, an aftermarket tonneau cover is a popular aftermarket addition for pickup trucks. This enables secure and weatherproof storage of cargo.
The interior of the 2024 Silverado 2500HD is nicer than the 2024 Titan XD. All trims have an upright dashboard with a modern, fresh design. Buyers also get a large central cubby for storage, a spacious glove box, and single or dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, depending on the trim. A power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated outboard rear seats are also available. Meanwhile, higher trims have a storage compartment beneath the rear seat, plus seat-back bins behind the rear seats.
Both heavy-duty pickup trucks have Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and Bluetooth®* connectivity. But the 2024 Silverado 2500HD offers a crisp 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster plus a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen for higher trims. Meanwhile, the 2024 Titan XD offers a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 9-inch infotainment screen for higher trims. Furthermore, the 2024 Silverado 2500HD can be specified with a wireless phone charger, Google built-in functionality, and sound system upgrades.
Two engines are available for 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD buyers. The default choice is a 6.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. For some trims, buyers can choose a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 that delivers 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Either engine pairs with a 10-speed Allison automatic gearbox. Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Chevy offers a ZR2 trim for the 2024 Silverado HD. This trim comes in four-wheel drive and has some off-road enhancements. These include Multimatic DSSV adaptive dampers and a 1.5-inch suspension lift. The ZR2 trim also gets 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud tires. There’s also a Trail Boss package that can be fitted to some trims. This brings the Z71 shock and suspension package, BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and underbody protection via skid plates.
Nissan only offers the 2024 Titan XD with a naturally aspirated 5.6-liter gasoline V8. The engine produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is available. There’s also a Pro-4X trim for off-roading. This has four-wheel drive as standard, plus all-terrain tires and enhanced suspension.
The 2024 Silverado 2500HD range can tow up to 22,070 pounds. Meanwhile, the 2024 Titan XD is rated for a maximum towing capacity of 11,050 pounds.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert. It also gets lane-keeping assistance, lane departure warning, and front pedestrian braking as standard. Higher trims include rear cross-traffic alert, trailer side blind zone alert, and front plus rear parking assist. The 2024 Nissan Titan XD isn’t so well-equipped. Many of these features are optional or unavailable.
