The 2021 model year brings about an exciting mid-generation refresh for the Chevrolet Colorado, leaving it with an expanded hood and aggressive face that hints at the power the truck holds. The Colorado now has wide side panels and an overall clean, minimalist look for the new decade. In addition to all Colorado models receiving an updated appearance, the ZR2 and Z71 trims also received special style upgrades to set them further apart from other Chevy Colorado trim levels.
The 2021 Chevy Colorado offers plenty of technology options like Bluetooth®* Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless device charging. You’ll also enjoy a myriad of driver assistance features that help you feel extra safe on the roads. Highlights for safety tech include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and forward collision assist.
Now, for the part that you’re likely most interested in - the Colorado runs on a 4-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. You’ll also have the option to upgrade to a V6 with 369 pound-feet of torque and an eight-speed automatic transmission. When equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
Those who like to live life on the wild side off-road will be particularly interested in the performance-based ZR2 and Z71 trims that offer more off-roading capabilities. The Z71 trim offers a specially-tuned suspension, an automatic locking rear differential, and all-terrain tires, and the ZR2 has a separate but equally capable suspension, higher ground clearance, and a few other exciting performance upgrades.
The Chevrolet Colorado can trace its origins to the Chevrolet S-10 compact that debuted in the 1982 model year. The S-10 was marketed as a quarter-ton pickup that immediately became popular with drivers around the country and enjoyed many generations and refreshes through the years. Two of the most popular iterations were the S-10 Baja and the S-10 Sonoma that added extra power to the S-10.
The Chevrolet S-10 was discontinued after the 1993 model year, but it would be 10 years before the Colorado replaced it in 2003. The original Colorado generation ran from its inaugural 2003 year to 2012, then a second generation was released in the 2014 model year. The Colorado was again refreshed in the 2021 model year to ensure it stays current and competitive in a crowded class.
